Vision, Expertise, Breadth, and Heart |
I have known Melba for over 30 years. Melba is an extraordinary psychologist, highly dedicated, visionary leader who already has made a huge difference in psychology and beyond; she sees what can be, knows how to work with people to get things done, works hard, and makes it a reality! She brings a wealth of major leadership experiences in APA: 9 years on Council, 3 years on the Board of Directors, presidencies of two divisions and one state organization, and numerous APA Boards and Committees. Moreover, she is a true scientist-practitioner: a cutting-edge, highly published scholar as well as an exceptional, award winning practitioner, advocate, and mentor. She is wise, diplomatic, as well as an innovative and creative problem solver. Most importantly, I know what is in her heart for psychology; her vision, experience, breadth, wisdom, and heart will make us all proud.

I am a candidate for APA President because I believe passionately that psychology can help bring about a better future for the profession and society.
Our world is changing and we must act to meet new challenges. Together we can create new opportunities for psychologists to apply our unique skills to improve individual lives and meet society’s needs. I respectfully ask for your # 1 vote to lead APA during this critical time.
APA needs a leader who is effective, collaborative, can build coalitions, and can capitalize on the opportunities afforded to us by the changes in society. I believe that I am best qualified to serve this role.
Please
vote for me when the final ballots are sent by APA October 15. Thank
you!
Update:

Sensitive to Ethical Demands of Practice, the Empirical Value of Science |
I endorse Melba Vasquez for APA President with respect, honor and conviction that she will be an outstanding leader of APA. Melba is a natural leader who brings balance, humor, intelligence, good judgment and a wealth of leadership experience to her candidacy for APA president. She is superbly qualified to lead APA in this time. I have known Melba for over 30 years since she held a Minority Fellowship during the first cohort of Fellows in 1977. She is sensitive to ethical demands of practice, the empirical value of science, and the ways in which they come together to inform public policy in a changing America. Her values of social justice and commitment to making lives better, and participation of people broader is surely a pathway to advancing psychology in this era of diversity. She is the president we need.
